From the Brand to the Stage, A Personal Invitation to the 2025 Jasai Theater Festival

There’s something sacred about returning to the stage, not just to perform, but to reclaim, rebuild, and rebirth the stories that shaped us.
For me, theater has never just been a performance. It was survival. It was my first language before I had the words. I found it as a young boy navigating the corners of Philadelphia, stage managing at Greenfield Elementary, then carrying that spark to CAPA, where I studied under giants. My life has been a sequence of scripts, some handed to me, others written from scratch.
But Jasai Theater Festival, this isn’t just my script.
It’s my offering. It’s the legacy I share with my wife, Sherry. It’s the love letter we write every summer to our son in heaven, to the community that raised us, and to every dreamer still fighting to be seen.
This year is different. Not just because we’re back. Not just because we’ve grown.
This time, we’re going bigger.
This time, we’re going deeper.
We’re transforming the entire festival into a fully immersive experience, where audiences don’t just watch a story unfold, they feel it, touch it, and walk through it. From raw behind the scenes confessionals to docuseries content, from pop up performances to interactive talkbacks, every moment is designed to remind you, you are part of this story too.
We’ve extended our run at Plays and Players Theater, bringing in four original works, including our headliner, Secrets, a hauntingly beautiful drama that bends time, memory, and legacy into one unforgettable evening. We’ve added a full production team, custom built sets, a wardrobe dreamscape, and sound and lighting that pull you into the emotional center of each world we build.
And let me be clear, we’re not just telling stories for entertainment.
We’re here to heal, to reveal, and to elevate.
We are centering voices that don’t always get a mic.
We’re honoring the past while demanding space in the future.
We’re giving flowers to our unsung heroes at the Jasai Awards, launching the Invite M. Night Challenge, and crafting experiences where Philly’s creative legacy gets the shine it deserves.
So whether you’ve been rocking with us since day one or this is your first time hearing about Jasai, we invite you to come witness what happens when dreamers get organized, and artists come home.
Because this festival isn’t just a show.
It’s our soul on stage.
We’re going bigger.
We’re going deeper.
We’re going home.
With love, Jaret R. Barron
